  • August 6: Everyone arrived safely at camp today.  It was hot--94° in the shade even at 4:00 p.m.  Hwy 79 was closed outside of Temecula, so after stopping for food we traveled further south on the I-15 and took Hwy 76 instead.  We were at camp by 12:30 p.m.  The campsite, Mohawk, is heavily shaded by oak trees and looked very nice.  The Troop was last seen heading out for their swim checks.  Your Scoutmaster left camp at 4:00 p.m. and was back in La Caņada at 6:30 p.m. with pretty optimal driving conditions.  If any news is received from camp during the week we'll post it here (so if you hear something interesting, please let Mr. Pieper know).

  • August 2Summer Camp Update courtesy of Mr. Seymour who just returned today from Mataguay:  Bring drinking water in the car--it's hot waiting to check in.   Bring binoculars if you're interested in the nature merit badges or astronomy merit badges.  Bring water balloons and squirt guns (optional) for "Custard's Last Stand" which takes place on Wednesday afternoon (not to be used at other times).  If anyone is interested in fishing you use peanut butter as bait (no barbed hooks--it's catch & release--a simple reel can be purchased at the camp store).  Mountain bikes are recommended if you have them.  Apparently folks get wet a lot at camp so bring some extra clothing along.  Closed toe shoes/boots are mandatory but you can take flaps for shower shoes.  It's dusty and extra socks are recommended.  If you bring any food, Tupperwear or other sealable bags or containers are essential due to a zillion ants (non-biting variety).  It's strongly recommended we be in line to check in by noon, so we've moved the assembly time up to 7:30 a.m. instead of 8:00 a.m.

  • July 31:  Meeting tonight at 7:30 p.m. for everyone attending summer camp.  We need to make final arrangements!

We've added the current (1997) Rose Bowl District Merit Badge Counselor List and the 2000-2001 school calendar for the La Caņada School District.

  • July 9: We've posted the Colorado River trip map from Downriver Outfitters on a new "Trip Information" page in the "Resources" section for those who are interested in seeing where we went.  We've also posted an electronically-generated map from Mr. Pieper's GPS and mapping software which shows these features in greater detail (best viewed at 200% zoom).  Check them out.

  • July 7: A merit badge study group has been organized--all are welcome even if you already have the merit badges.  Thanks Mrs. Lu!
