May
14th Meeting Information
To
Scouts and Parents: This is the first of two special meetings designed
to help the new Scouts meet their physical aptitude test requirements for
Tenderfoot rank. Information about these tests can be found starting
at page 57 of the Boy Scout Handbook. On this Monday we will do the
initial tests and records the boys' results. In another month we
will re-test the boys and record their new results. The object is to
show improvement -- the absolute test results are not important.
Each Scout, with encouragement and assistance from his parents, should
practice these particular skills for the next month so that he can
demonstrate that, with practice and training, he has improved.
We
will meet at the Barkley Community Center parking lot stairs at 7:00 p.m.
on Monday, May 14th. The center is located at 4469 Chevy Chase
Drive. We will then go down the stairs to the athletic field and
track. Since the boys will be running and doing push ups, etc.,
uniforms are not required or recommended for this evening. Instead,
the Scouts should wear something comfortable for the tests they will be
taking. We will transport all the Scouts back to St. George's
to our regular meeting room, and they will finish their meeting there and
be done around 8:30 to 8:45 p.m. Scouts should be dropped off
at the Community Center and picked up at St. George's.
After
next Monday's tests we recommend that parents take their Scouts back to
the athletic field and encourage them to practice the tests and to run the
track. This will help insure that they will improve before the
second test in another month.
