River Checklist
To
Scouts and Parents: Please printout and use this checklist. Everyone
should bring all items on the list. Do not bring items you don't need. It
is going to be very HOT
on this trip. There are several items we want to emphasize.
-
Bring
your own canteen. Plastic Nalgene bottles are the best. They have them
at Sport Chalet. Click here for a
picture. A plastic water bottle from the supermarket is NOT a
proper canteen. Every year, several people get sick from dehydration.
Thirst is not an acceptable measure of how much water you need to
drink (not even close). Plan on drinking TONS of water. We will
supply water to refill your canteen (or better yet, bring your own
filter. It's on the list). Any scout or parent not observed drinking
lots of water will be harassed constantly.
-
Bring
some rope for tying your canteen to the back of the canoe (this way it
will stay very cool).
-
We
"will" be supplying disposable Plates, Cups, Knifes, Forks,
and Spoons to cut down on the dish washing. Do however bring your own
canteen for water while in the canoe and at camp.
-
Bring
a wide brimmed hat. We will be out in the sun all day (baseball type
hats provide very little protection. If you don't own a wide brimmed
hat, go buy one).
-
Bring
a pair of water shoes or surf
boots with soles made for walking. The surf boots will provide
much better warmth if you have cold feet like Mr. Stack.
-
Bring
lots of Sun Block.
-
Bring
a good pair of Sunglasses with a safety strap.
-
Bring
a pair of paddling gloves if you are worried about your hands. Click
here for a picture.
-
Pack
light please. Only bring that which you need. Two adults have to
pack and unpack the boat that will be coming up-river.
-
Life
vests will be provided. Everyone must wear one when in the
canoe.
- Bring
enough money for dinner Friday, breakfast Saturday, lunch Sunday, and
$$$ for the arcade and rides at Buffalo Bills. Maybe $20 for food and
$20 for the entertainment. Low $30, high $50.
