Ski Trip Checklist

Updated May 09, 2004

To Scouts and Parents: Please printout and use this checklist. Everyone should bring all items on the list. Do not bring items you don't need. Here are items we would like to emphasize.

  1. The key to keeping warm (but not hot) on the ski slopes is to layer. If you get to hot, you remove a layer. If you get to cold, you add a layer.

  2. Tennis shoes are no good when going on a winter ski trip. They get wet (and soaked) too easy. Some kind of water resistant shoes or boots are best (for use when not on the slopes and for the drive up).

  3. Bring lots of Sun Block. Sun Block is needed even when the weather is overcast.

  4. Bring a good pair of Sunglasses or Ski Goggles with a safety strap. Many people have gotten snow blindness. This is very bad news. Sun protection for your eyes is NOT an option.

  5. Unless you have your own ski gear, you must rent your skis, poles, and boots here in La Canada at Sport Chalet (or other local store of your choice) since one of your parents will need to sign the rental form and release.

  6. Food is expensive on the mountain, so allow $20-25 per day for food.  We usually eat out one evening and have pizza at the cabin the other night.  There is no charge for the use of the cabin, and the cost of transportation is your share of the cost of gas for the vehicles driving up to Big Bear.

  7. According to the Snow Summit website, the lift ticket rates this year are $48 for adults (ages 20+); $36 for teens (ages 13-19) and $15 for children ages 7-12 yrs.  Those who go up Thursday evening would have to buy lift tickets on Friday and Saturday.
