ABOUT OUR OUTGOING SCOUTMASTER

Our outgoing Scoutmaster, Darold Pieper, has lived in La Caņada Flintridge for many years with his wife Barbara and their son Christopher.  Mr. Pieper was a Boy Scout himself as a youth, and he became actively involved in Troop 502 when Christopher joined the Troop upon completing Cub Scouts.  He served for two years as the Committee Chairman of the Troop, and then was Scoutmaster for seven years.  He is now an Assistant Scoutmaster.  In addition, he serves as the District Commissioner for the Rose Bowl District.  He has taken Leader Basic training as well as High Adventure Team Leader, Desert, and Backpacking I training.

Mr. Pieper has been honored to receive five major Scouting awards for his work with Troop 502 and our local District.  In 2006 he was awarded the Scoutmaster's Key Award.  In 2004 he was admitted as a James E. West Fellow.  In 2003 he received the Scoutmaster Award of Merit and the  Baden-Powell Award for excellence in Scouting.  In 1999 he was honored with the District Award of Merit from the Rose Bowl District and the St. George Episcopal Award from the Boy Scouts of America and the Presiding Bishop of The Episcopal Church.  In 1996 he earned the Boy Scout Leader's Training Award.  Christopher left the Troop in 1999 as an Eagle Scout.

Mr. Pieper, now the City Attorney of Vista, California, was an attorney in downtown Los Angeles and active in youth services for many years.  He was President of the Los Angeles County Delinquency and Crime Commission from 1987 to 1994 and served as Chairman of the Board of Youth Opportunities United from 1990-1996.  He has also served as a Director of the La Caņada Spartan Boosters, and as Director and President of the La Caņada Flintridge Coordinating Council, and the La Caņada Flintridge Chamber of Commerce and Community Association.  He was a Reserve Police Officer with the City of Pasadena for fifteen years and also served as the Commander of that unit.
